Course Details

This course is a practical introduction into the agriculture industry and, with the support of our inspiring lecturers and outstanding support network, gives you the opportunity to specialise as your interests and skills develop. Your knowledge is enhanced through working alongside a range of livestock on our working farm.

Entry Requirements

No previous formal qualifications are needed but we will interview you to check that the course is the right one for you. We will also assess your English and Maths. You must have a keen interest in working with livestock.

Career options

This course can lead onto the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture or other related study areas within the college.

What you need to know

What will I study?

If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and Maths, as well as work experience. Modules include: tractor operations; repair and maintenance of structures in the countryside; movement, handling and accommodation of animals; care of animals; maintaining the health and well-being of animals and developing performance in land-based industries.

How will I be taught?

The course is about 80% practical and 20% theory. All lessons are held at the college farm taking advantage of all of the teaching facilities.

How will I be assessed?

You will build up a portfolio of evidence over the year to help you to complete all of the practical assessments.
