Course Details

CCG offers students a versatile and flexible way to achieve Higher Education qualifications and a full bachelor’s degree in the creative industries. Equivalent to the second year of a university course, the HND in Creative Multimedia with Journalism has a broad media base that reflects a professional working environment. The course offers students a vocational progression route to higher level study offering an exciting variety of units that focus on narrative, moving image production, film criticism, investigative journalism and individual research projects. Students will conceptualise ideas and produce and direct new moving image products, analyse the film and TV industries, develop practical editing a special effects skills and undertake a major investigative and journalistic research project. Fundamentally they will build their overall production skills ready for the industry and widening areas of specialism. For some students, studying the HNC and HND provides a more open and flexible route towards a full bachelor’s degree, where they can secure a higher level qualification at the end of each year as they progress, save money in the process and remain local.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a Level 4 qualification in the creative arts is the standard entry requirements although those with significant experience of the creative industries are also considered.

Career options

Most students progress onto the Level 6 BSc (Hons) Creative Media Technologies Top-Up Degree with CCG and the University of Portsmouth. Some students decide to leave at the end of the year, achieving the full HND and enter the creative industries.

What will I study?

You will study the following units: Collaborative Project Scriptwriting for Film & TV Advanced Editing for Film & TV Narrative Film Criticism Advanced Journalism Studies Personal Professional Development

How will I be taught?

Courses are taught with a combination of lectures, seminars and practical workshops, with the added expectation of self-directed study. Students will be expected to work as part of a team and autonomously in order to complete scheduled work. Coursework based, the course does not have any formal exams and instead students will work on large scale media production projects in each semester.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through portfolio based course work and work experience. You will be able to select a method of recording creative development to suit your needs, usually in the form of digital or traditional sketchbook. Some outcomes may be assessed through professional pitch. Course tuition fee - £6,500 per year
