Course Details

This course has been developed in response to changes within media industries and university courses. You will have the opportunity to combine theory and practical tasks in an exciting and stimulating way, developing yourself as an individual media producer as well as gaining a sound understanding of professional practice within modern media. Subject areas within this course include the print industry, film production, animation & motion design, app design & interactive media, tv advertising, audio broadcasting and industry studies.

Entry Requirements

You will need a range of GCSEs ( 5 GCSEs at D-G grade, or equivalent) in order to gain entrance on to this course, but no previous media experience is required, although it is desirable if you have previous experience.

Career options

This course provides many different creative skills across many different media disciplines. You will gain diverse Adobe software skills providing you with a broad knowledge base that will enable you to progress to higher creative courses in creative media, photography, graphics or animation.

What you need to know

What will I study?

Within this course you will study the importance of your target audience when generating different media products for the cosumer market. Assignments range from; printed media layout and design, journalism, film production, app design, animation, motion graphics, graphic design, photography, advertising techniques, video editing, pre and post-production skills, presentation skills, sound recording and editing, as well as Media industry studies and more. Within your course you will also study English and maths functional skills.

How will I be taught?

Delivery within this programme is by units. You will study a range of units within the year, creating a portfolio of evidence. We combine units with a real life brief which provides an industry experience for the learner. We will teach you all of the new software skills that you will need and the theoretical, legal and ethical debates behind each assignment. Some of these units will be externally marked.

How will I be assessed?

Units are assessed on a Pass, Merit and Distinction basis, with all but two of the units being internally marked. It will take the form of ongoing assessments, completing a media portfolio.
