Course Details

This qualification if for those who wish to follow a career in architecture, interior architecture or interior design. This specialist University of the Arts London level 3 qualification has been developed specifically to support those who wish to develop the fundamental creative, practical and theoretical skills required to pursue a career in spatial design, and is ideal if you wish to progress to degree level study and develop the essential skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to start a career in the spatial design industry. You will have access to an extensive range of resources dedicated to the study of architecture and interior design. Our facilities include a range of equipment for use in 2D and 3D visualisation, and model making. Our industry standard CAD studio includes SketchUp, Vectorworks and Photoshop.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A* to C or a relevant BTEC level 2 diploma at a merit grade or equivalent qualifications. Qualifications must include English language and maths GCSE grade C or above, or Functional Skills level 2. A portfolio of work demonstrating current achievement and potential is essential.

What will I study?

During your time on this course you will undertake a diverse range of practical design projects that aim to develop the fundamental skills necessary for the design of creative and functional architectural spaces. In the first year of the programme you will learn how to apply conceptual thinking to the design process in the realisation of both architectural and interior based projects. In the second year you will be encouraged to develop your portfolio with an emphasis on specialist knowledge development, tailoring the second year of study to your own specific pathways and interests within the spatial design industries. A number of projects are delivered as 'live' projects, working on industry linked project briefs that provide the opportunity to respond to real client needs and requirements.

How will I be taught?

During your studies on this programme you will develop all of the necessary skills and knowledge required to begin your own creative career within the spatial design industries. This full-time programme is primarily delivered through diverse practical assignments, enabling you to apply conceptual thinking to the design of architectural spaces, and developing your essential design skills, such as; concept sketching, CAD visualisation, practical model making, and design research.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is via practical coursework and project submissions that are continuously reviewed and monitored by course lecturers and an internal verification team, along with an annual external verification visit from UAL. You will be provided with continuous formal ad informal developmental feedback, providing guidance on how to improve work and grades.
