Course Details

This exciting one year course will offer you the chance to learn about a variety of art and design disciplines. You will explore painting, drawing, digital photography, printmaking and a rage of 2D and 3D techniques. You will be able to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into a range of qualifications at level 3.

Entry Requirements

You will need a range of GCSEs ( 5 GCSEs at D-G grade, or equivalent) in order to gain entrance on to this course. No previous experience is required, although it is desirable. We also accept a level 1 BTEC Diploma in Art and Design at merit grade.

The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to level 3 study and training in a range of art and design subjects, including fine art, photography, graphic design, fashion , textiles or architecture

What you need to know

What will I study?

The course includes units that cover :introduction to materials, methods, processes and technical skills, contextual studies, drawing, communication skills in art and design, solving 2D and 3D creative problems, solving time-based creative problems and produce a personal art and design project. We want you to succeed and you will be given opportunities to focus your studies on creative areas which interest you. Within your course you will also study English and maths, either to GCSE level or through Functional Skills.

How will I be taught?

This course is designed for you to learn by direct experience, as most work is practical, involving you developing a range of skills across different workshops. Throughout the year you will be taught by practical demonstrations, discussions, group critiques, power point presentations, team teaching and educational trips.

How will I be assessed?

All units are continuously assessed through the compilation of sketchbooks. Each unit has its own set of assessments criteria and you fill find them at the back of your project briefs. These will tell you exactly what you need to do to obtain a particular grade. Each project will be graded as pass, merit or distinction.
