Looking for a career in the motor vehicle industry or just have a passion for motor vehicles? This course equips you with the skills required for basic vehicle repair & servicing. You will learn a range of manual skills & gain confidence in a workshop environment and your competence in a range of subject areas is assessed throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, except for a keen interest in the subject, but all applicants will be required to complete a successful interview and aptitude test. If you have a grade 4 or C and higher in GCSE English & Maths you may be considered for Level 1.

Career options

This qualification can lead on to the City & Guilds L1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (4290), subject to interview or employment in one of the many local automotive companies.

What will I study?

This course covers a range of units including: engine lubrication, engine cooling, fuel and exhaust systems, spark ignition systems, electrical systems, braking systems, transmission systems, steering & suspension systems, wheel & tyre systems, engine power units & operating principles. We will help you develop your employment skills and provide enrichment activities to enhance this course

How will I be taught?

As part of your time with us you will follow a study programme, which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and Maths, as gaining an experience of work. You will be in the workshop for two days and the classroom for half a day, plus your English and Maths.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed for your practical skills as well as your knowledge across all 10 units.
