Course Details

The purpose and aim of the IMI electric/hybrid vehicle qualification is to instruct individuals from the retail automotive industry and the public service sector (for example, members of the emergency services, who may attend an accident involving an electric/hybrid vehicle) in the maintenance, service, and/or handling of electric/hybrid vehicles. This unit is designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid (all variations) vehicles and require safety awareness. It is suitable for non-technical people such as managers, valeters, parts, sales and aftersales, event staff, vehicle recovery personnel, vehicle dismantlers, vehicle damage assessors and electric/hybrid professional vehicle drivers. It contains the knowledge of the dangers surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles (all variations) and the precautions to avoid potential injury.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this single unit qualification, however, it is recommended that learners will have 3 GCSEs, or Scottish Standard Grade/Intermediate in Mathematics, English and a Science based subject.

Career options

This qualification will help support progression onto qualifications that further develop their knowledge and skills within a technical role, carrying out diagnosis, repair and testing of high voltage components on Electric/Hybrid vehicles at level 3.

What will I study?

The content of this qualification has been designed to give candidates the knowledge and skills required to work safely around Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out non-high voltage repairs or activities. It contains one mandatory unit EV1 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness covering the knowledge requirement for understanding the dangers surrounding these vehicle types. As a result, learners successfully completing this qualification will acquire core knowledge of the awareness of Electric/Hybrid vehicles.

How will I be taught?

This one day course will be delivered as a mixture of classroom theory and workshop practical.
