Course Details

Chichester College benefits from having its own, professional Barber shop. It is accredited by the British Barbering Association, is open to the public and run by you. This course offers you many training and industry advantages as you explore the first step on the ladder to your chosen career. It is perfect for you if you are practically minded, innovative, have a creative flair, a lively personality and a genuine interest in barbering. It is challenging and varied, covering a variety of skills to enable you to enter the Barbering Industry.

Entry Requirements

English Language or Math GCSE grade 4 or above and two other GCSE grade 3 or above such as Science, PE or a creative subject such as Textiles or Art. You need to secure a work experience placement in a barber shop for 1 day a week while you are on the course.

Career options

Successful completion of the programme of study and passing an industry based assessment will allow you to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Barbering or into industry where you can work for an employer or rent a chair in a barbershop.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will follow a study programme consisting of Barbering, Work Experience, English, Math and Enrichment activities. The barbering qualification will consist of : Client consultation for hair services Cut men's hair, Cut facial hair and Style men’s hair Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp Promote products and services to clients Health & Safety & Reception duties Colour and lighten hair Create an image based on a theme Display stock to promote sales

How will I be taught?

The delivery of this course will be in the training work shops and the Barber shop. This course will be a combination of demonstrations, practical sessions, structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions and research. External guest speakers are invited in throughout the year.

How will I be assessed?

Practical skills will be assessed through observation by your Assessor and External Verifier from the awarding body. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a combination of written assignments and external exams.
