Course Details

Chichester College benefits from having its own, professional Barber shop. It is accredited by the British Barbering Association, is open to the public and staffed by you. During the course you will develop a range of complex barbering skills and theoretical knowledge which will prepare you to work within a competitive barbering environment. This course offers you many training and industry advantages as you explore your chosen career choice.

Entry Requirements

You must have a minimum of 7 hours per week work placement in a Barber shop and have GCSE at grade C (5) in English or Maths or equivalent. You will need to have a Level 2 Barbering qualification, complete an initial assessment, interview and area assessment prior to starting the course.

This course can lead you on to a varied and exciting career in the Barbering industry. Options include: Work in a Barber shop, Fashion Session Barber, an owner of a Barber shop or working on a Cruise ship.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will follow a study programme covering Barbering, Work Experience, English, Math and Enrichment activities. The barbering qualification will consist of: Health, Safety and Client consultation Promote and sell products and services to clients Reception duties and Creative image Human resources and Display stock to promote sales Shaving and Scalp massage Cut men's hair and Cut facial hair.

How will I be taught?

The delivery of this course will be in the training work shops and the Barber shop. You will cover a combination of demonstrations, practical sessions, structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions, research and lectures. External guest speakers are invited in throughout the year.

How will I be assessed?

Practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, on-line exams, oral questioning and presentations.
