Course Details

The course aims to provide the opportunity for learners to develop the understanding of specialist areas of hair and make-up inline with management practice relevant to the industry. You will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of linked activities including visits to trade fairs and exhibitions, and the chance to participate in competitions, presentations and demonstrations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants need to have a level 3 qualification in hair and make- up media, artistry or theatrical. Other equivilant qualifactions can be considered on an individual bases. When applying a portfolio of evidence of skills will need to be provided at the point of interview

Career options

The Higher National Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up mnagement will allow learners to progress in to industry related employment, Freelance self- employment or further study for 1 year to achieve a BA (Hons) in Make-up and Hair Design at university.

Core Units: Management of health, safety and security in the salon/ workshop; Salon/ workshop management; Sales management in the hair, make-up and beauty sector; Quality management of client care in the hair, make-up and beauty sector. Hair and Make-up Route Unit 7: Manage the creation of a hair style collection Unit 12: Human health and nutrition Unit 13: Provide Indian Head Massage Unit 29: Public relations in the hair and beauty sector Unit 31: Small business enterprise Unit 80: Current trends in hair and make-up Unit 27: Design techniques and applications for the performer The above units will be assessed using a variety of methods including direct observation, research and essay writing.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods include range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, as well as written examinations and a final year major project. The grades from formal assessments count towards your unit mark. The balance of assessment by examination and assessment by coursework depends on your course choices.
