Course Details

Chichester College benefits from having its own professional Barber shop and Lee Stafford Education salon that is open to the public and staffed by students. The Barber shop is accredited by the British Barbering Association. This course offers you many training and industry advantages as you explore the first step on the ladder to your chosen career. This course is perfect for practically minded people who are innovative, have a creative flair, a lively personality and a genuine interest in barbering.

Entry Requirements

You will need: 3 GCSE grades 3 or above in English and Mathematics and one other GCSE at grade 3. You will need to secure a work experience placement in either a Barber shop or Hairdressing Salon for a minimum of 1/2 a day a week, while studying on the course.

Career options

Successful completion of the course and a trade test will allow you to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Barbering.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will follow a study programme covering Barbering, Work Experience, English, Math and Enrichment activities. The barbering qualification will consist of: Prepare for hair services and maintain work areas Contribute to the development of effective working relationships Blow dry hair Shampoo and condition Assist with salon reception duties Assist with colouring and lightening services

How will I be taught?

The delivery of this course will be in the training work shops and the Barber Shop. You will be taught through a combination of demonstrations, practical sessions, structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions and research.

How will I be assessed?

Practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a combination of written assignments and exams.
