Course Details

Hairdressing is ideal for hardworking and creative people. Some of the skills you will need include patience, excellent communication, teamwork and attention to detail. An interest in fashion and emerging trends is essential. The Apprenticeship standard is designed to provide you with the knowledge and practical experience required.

Entry Requirements

Employed in a Hairdressing salon (minimum of 33 hours per week, including one day a week at college). Must have a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 in maths and English and be prepared to purchase a full kit and uniform. Applicants must also successfully complete an initial assessment and interview.

What you need to know

What will I study?

The Hair Professional Apprentice will train as salon junior and as part of the salon team. On completion of the Apprenticeship, the Hairdressing Professional Apprentice will be able to shampoo and condition hair ,cut hair using a variety of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks and colour and lighten hair. Hairdressing professionals will be able to work with all hair types demonstrating professionalism ,values, behaviors communication skills and safe working practices associated with the role and to able to work with out supervision to a high level of precision ,with exceptional client care skills. They will be be able to undertake the full range of duties appropriate to the job, confidently and competently. In addition to the Apprenticeship Standard the Hairdressing Professional will benefit from attending the of Lee Stafford Education Salon and learning the full range of Lee Stafford cut, style and colour recipes.

How will I be taught?

The course is delivered in the College and Workplace and comprises: Level 2 Hair professional , Functional Skills Math Level 2- (exempt if Grade A-C in Math GCSE) and Functional Skills English Level 1-(exempt if Grade A-C in English Language GCSE). Units: Shampoo, condition, treat the hair and scalp, Consultation ,Style and finish, Cut, Colour ,Perming, Health & Safety.

How will I be assessed?

Continual development of the skills ,knowledge and behaviors are required to meet the Standard and the City and Guilds qualification. A range of on going observations and knowledge tests will be undertaken. Competence is assessed by a final synoptic practical assessment supplemented by oral questioning resulting in an end point assessment. Functional Skills Math's and English are assessed through on-line tests .
