Course Details

This course is designed for those wishing to prepare for a career at professional / management level in business. Learning is accomplished by: lectures, guest speakers, seminars, application of theory and models to real and fictional case studies, individual and group work, role play and experiential learning. The course comprises eight core and eight optional units. Students may be able to select their optional units and so design a study pathway towards their particular career interests. It is practically based and provides students with skills and expertise which are both current and highly marketable. At the end of the course students have the opportunity to celebrate their achievement with a full graduation ceremony at Chichester Cathedral. This qualification has been approved by ACCA, CIMA and CIPS and may also offer exemptions in professional body exams such as CIMA, CIPD, ACCA and CIPS (units dependent). Year 1 comprises the HNC (Level 4 Higher National Certificate) qualification. Students can then progress on to the second year HND (Level 5 Higher National Diploma) to fully complete the qualification.

Entry Requirements

A typical offer of either a combination of GCE A levels/Level 3 Diploma or an Extended Diploma at overall Merit. Relevant industry experience will be considered. GCSE Mathematics and English Language are preferred at grade C or above, English as a second language at IELTS 6.0 or equivilant.

Career options

Students may wish to convert the BTEC HND into a full BA (Hons) Degree by completing the top up year which is available at Chichester College or other UK universities. Alternatively, excellent long-term career routes for HND Business Diploma holders

What will I study?

The HND in Business is run as a modular course over 2 years, divided into semesters. Students are required to complete and pass 16 units: 4 per semester. There are 8 business cores and 8 specialist units. Year 1 Units: Business and the Business Environment; Marketing Essentials; Human Resource Management; Management and Operations; Management Accounting; Managing a Successful Business Project (Pearson-set). Optional modules: Business Law; Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management; Year 2 Units: Research Project (Pearson-set); Organisational Behaviour. Optional modules: Statistics in Management; Business Strategy; Developing Individuals and Teams Consumer Behaviour and Insight; Brand Management.

How will I be taught?

The course has a broad business base, such that each unit will be distinct. Teaching and Learning therefore follows a varied pattern. Learning is accomplished by: · Lectures & Seminars · Speakers & visits · Application of theory and models to real and fictional case studies to analyse problems and make recommendations · Individual, Paired and Group work · Design, Role Play and Experiential Learning · Presentations to Business Clients who feedback on students’ plans and recommendations.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed by a mixture of in-course assignment work and end of unit examination assignments.Course work assignments can take the form of Business Reports, Business Briefings, individual or group Presentations, Time Constrained Assessments, through to Presentations of Individual Research
