Course Details

Chichester College’s new BA (Hons) Business Top-up Degree provides the opportunity for Higher National Diploma and Foundation degree students to achieve their full degree at Chichester College whilst working and/or balancing other commitments. This qualification has been designed with employers and based on current and future industry requirements to ensure that graduates are well-rounded, have good business acumen and can apply learning to the rapidly changing business environment. As a result, the qualification focuses on developing student’s practical application of theory to real business scenarios and build resilience within the business environment. This qualification has been designed with students to achieve maximum flexibility and varied teaching methods through a ‘blended learning’ approach. There are no lectures on the programme, instead there are interactive sessions, online resources/tasks, work placement, independent research and 1:1 support. Our focus is to help you develop a real understanding of business in context and provide you with a supportive ‘practice ground’ before progressing your career.

Entry Requirements

You would typically have a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in Business with 240 credits. We recognise that learning can be achieved in many ways and it may be possible to enter the programme with evidence of relevant prior learning at level 5/6.

Career options

Business graduate students have excellent long-term career potential and pathways to choose from. Students may decide to follow their specialism chosen within the optional modules of - project manager, marketing manager, event manager, HR professional or international trade at post-graduate level.

What you need to know

What will I study?

The Business Top-up Degree is run as a modular programme over 1 year, divided by terms. Students are required to complete and pass four modules – three compulsory modules of 1) business research 2) entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship 3) strategic management and 4) managing operations. Plus, one optional modules of a) contemporary human resource management b) project implement, or c) global environment. The course focuses on developing your business knowledge in areas of current and future employer demand in graduates and aims to develop your ability to apply theory in practice. There are additional Higher Education workshops provided by the Higher Education department to supplement this course and provide academic support for your learning at level 6. The course offers blended learning, which includes online tasks and support resources for each module outside the classroom. There are also Wednesday tutorials from 5pm to 6pm with the Programme Leader to address common areas of study, 1:1 support and any other issues.

How will I be taught?

The course is designed to be as flexible as possible to fit around your work and personal commitments. Taught interactive sessions will mostly take place on Monday(6pm-9pm) and Tuesday evenings from 5pm-9pm. There are some flexibilities within the timetable to choose an option that is of most interest, or perhaps better fit your other commitments. Term 2 and 3 are focused on work placement, or setting up your own business and independent research.

How will I be assessed?

The course uses a variety of assessment methods (report, professional discussion, presentation, portfolio and timed assessment) to ensure you graduate with well-rounded business skills and can apply theory in practice. Each module sets out the required assessment which usually consists of one to two assessment methods
