Course Details

We are delighted to offer the the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship provides support to internal and external customers and will work either as an assistant accountant within a practice or within a financial function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year end financial statements or maybe being involved in the completion of VAT returns or preparing tax computations The Apprenticeship is a 18 month course which includes close working with employers, with planned reviews, to help support the individual to achieve success in their apprenticeship. Apprentices will be supported by the AAT course leader, subject specialist lecturers, assigned assessors and a student tutor throughout their apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include 5GCSEs at grade 4 / C or above, incl maths & English. Other relevant level 3 qualifications & experience, may be accepted. Applicants without English/maths GCSE must achieve this before taking their end point assessment.

What you need to know

What will I study?

The timetable is planned to ensure that the on-programme assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviour outcomes is covered over an 18 month period, enroute to the final synoptic end point assessment. Topics covered will be: Advanced Bookkeeping Final Accounts Preparation Indirect Tax Management Accounting Costing Ethics & Spreadsheet for Accountants You will also be required to compile a work based portfolio of evidence to support your learning.

How will I be taught?

Classroom based tuition. Additional resources on VLE and exam practice via AAT website.

How will I be assessed?

For your AAT qualification, you will study 5 units in total. Of these, 4 will be assessed via computer based tests, with the results being available within two hours. The remaining unit will be an end of year synoptic test, with the results for this being available within 5 - 6 weeks of your exam date. For your apprenticeship to be successfully completed, there will also be an end point assessment, which will be an additional external assessment.
