Course Details

Units include the following: • Essentials of IT • Essentials of Cyber Security • Creating Programming Solutions for Business • Participating in a Project • Pitching the Product • Creating Websites • Creating Mobile Applications for Business • Games Creation If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, GCSE English/Maths retakes as well work experience.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grades D/3 or above including English and Maths. All applicants will be invited for a mandatory interview with the Course Leader.

Career options

Cambridge Technicals provide a strong base for progression to further study, apprenticeships or employment.

What will I study?

The course focuses on the job role of a software practitioner across a range of units: Essentials of IT - You will learn about hardware/software and the benefits to you and businesses of using IT and the Internet. Essentials of Cyber Security will enable you to gain knowledge and understanding of the threats and vulnerabilities that can have an impact on individuals and organisations. Creating Programming Solutions for Business unit will enable you to explore programming languages and the context in which they are used. Participating in a Project - For this unit you will participate in a project that will require you to use skills in team working, problem solving, time management, communication and project planning. Pitching the Product - in this unit you will learn about pitching a product to a client and different communication methods to pitch products to stakeholders. Creating Websites unit will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to create basic websites to support businesses. Creating Mobile Applications for Business unit is to provide an understanding of the uses of mobile applications for business. Games Creation unit is to give you the opportunity to use the fundamentals of games design.

How will I be taught?

Methods of delivery include: Practical classes, group & individual work, lectures, project work, self-study, internet research, quizzes and tests.

How will I be assessed?

Most assessment is through coursework, although two units, Essentials of IT and Essentials of Cyber Security will be externally assessed.
