Course Details

This course is designed for trainee carpenters/joiners and or improvers looking to further their skills and get a recognised qualification. The trainee on completion will be able to work from drawings and specifications, work in a safe manner when out in the workplace, carry out various practical tasks to the standards set by the industry. The course consists of mandatory units and then the applicant then chooses to follow the Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery route.

Entry Requirements

Apprentices must be in paid employment in the relevant industry to cover the requirements of the framework. There is a paper base construction assessment along with an interview. Assessments in English and Maths need to be taken to determine if the applicant would be suitable.

The course is delivered in the College and Workplace and comprises of: • NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry or Joinery • CSkills Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry or Joinery ( Technical Certificate) • Functional Skills Mathematics Level 1 • Functional Skills English Level 1 • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

How will I be taught?

The course required attendance to the college to achieve all elements of the framework. The required attendance is for six weekly blocks per year. These blocks are usually spaced to one block week per academic term ( approx once in every 6 weeks)

How will I be assessed?

A range of methods, including work place assessments and online tests.
