What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study a range of topics from Child Development to your own Personal Professional Development on this Childcare Course. You will look at the development of a child and the factors that might influence a child’s development. You will also look at your own personal development and how this can be enhanced to support work with children. Other important subjects will be Health and Safety and, Equality and Diversity; ensuring children are kept safe, and valuing and celebrating all children that attend the setting. The content of this course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to work in the Childcare sector. As an Apprentice you will also look at Employment Rights and Responsibilities; what you need to do day to day in the setting whilst at work and investigate issues that arise within the childcare sector. Maths and English is another important aspect of your studies and this will be taught by Maths and English experts.

How will I be taught?

Teaching, learning and assessment will take place through taught sessions, group work, role play, self study and assignment work. You will be assessed in the work place by a qualified assessor who will observe you at work, providing you with individual support and guidance. These teaching methods are flexible and can be tailored to meet the individual needs of apprentices.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment varies for this course and will be adapted to meet your needs. Typical assessment methods will be the completion of written work, posters, leaflets, discussions and reflections. Reflective accounts are a great way for you to share with the lecturer what you do in the setting as well an opportunity to reflect on what you do day to day whilst at work. You will be assigned an experienced assessor who will visit you at work and observe your practice in the setting. They will provide you with plenty of support and feedback to enable you to develop as a professional and achieve your level two childcare qualification.
