Course Details

This course is designed to develop the advanced skills, knowledge and performance within Early Years settings, for those working as a Key Person/Key Carer in the childcare sector. Taught subjects include Child Development, Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Professional Practice and Communication. Apprentices will be assessed by a college assessor, who mentors and guides them, providing meaningful feedback on their practice and enabling them to develop within their role.

Entry Requirements

Apprentices will have experience of working with children, be employed as a Key Person/Key Carer in an Ofsted registered Early Years setting. Please note that a GCSE at C grade in Maths and English Lang or above will be required on completion of the apprenticeship to gain employment in the sector.

Career options

Apprentices can progress to supervisory roles, such as Team Leader, Senior Nursery Nurse, Nursery Officer roles. They can progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership

What will I study?

The course is delivered using a blended approach, combining taught sessions and assessment in the workplace, and comprises: • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce • Functional Skills Level 2 in English, Mathematics & ICT • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

How will I be taught?

Teaching, learning and assessment will take place through taught sessions, group work, role play, self study and assignment work. You will be assessed in the work place by a qualified assessor who will observe you at work. You will attend college ond day a week where you will be able to share and reflect on practice and gain underpinning knowledge to support your practice as a L3 qualified member of staff.

How will I be assessed?

• Apprentices will be allocated a dedicated assessor who will carry out all assessment in the workplace • Functional Skills are assessed through on-line tests and observations (for English) • Portfolio of work based evidence and assignments to assess knowledge
