Course Details

The aims of this qualifications is to inspire and enthuse you to consider a career in the health and social care sector, give you the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of and develop skills in the health and social care sector We will support your progression into a more specialised level 3 vocational/academic health and social care course or an apprenticeship which will give you the potential opportunity in due course to enter employment within a wide range of job roles.

Entry Requirements

• Minimum age 16 years. • 3 GCSE subjects grade A*-D including English Language • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring service check. * Students progressing from our level 1 programme, have to have achieved a level 1 in English and 7 unit, which have been extended.

Career options

You could move on to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic health and social care course or an apprenticeship as it will give you the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of job roles.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will take a total of 11–13 units to complete this qualification. An example of some of the units you my study are: • Human Lifespan Development • Health and Social Care Values • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care • Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing • The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing • Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care • Individual Rights in Health and Social Care • Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health and Social Care All learners are required to take or work towards GCSE A*–C English and Maths. You will need an enhanced DBS (Criminal Records Check), to ensure you ensure that you are suitable to work with vulnerable children and adults.

How will I be taught?

• You will participate in role plays or simulated activities to illustrate examples of good and bad practice, such as the effective/ineffective application of communication skills within health and social care scenarios. • Guest speakers will speak to students to discuss their work and experiences within the health and social care industry. • You will visit health and social care settings.

How will I be assessed?

You will study 2 externally assessed units (the remaining internal) that will assist you to progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to a related academic qualification by providing independent assessment evidence of learning alongside a range of internal marked assignments.
