The NHS employs 1.4 million people and social care 1.6 million people and will have over half a million extra jobs available by 2030. ( There are over 350 different careers to choose from and there is a role for everyone with the right skills and values. If you are committed to making a positive difference to people’s lives in this ever growing health & social care industry; if you are patient and enthusiastic, then this is the course for you. Working in any career in the health or social care industry is extremely rewarding and will provide you with great job satisfaction. You will get many opportunities to take part in overseas residential trips, projects, fundraising, volunteering and charity work. This will develop your skills, confidence and enable you to thrive in your own personal development. In the first year of the course you will complete the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health & Social care which is equivalent to one A level, the second year you will studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care, which is equivalent to further two A Levels.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of: 5 GCSE's grade 4 or above. 4 or above in Maths & English. If you wish to study any form of nursing you will also require a grade 4 or above in Science. Progressing learners from the level 2 programme, will require a Pass Merit grade.

Career options

The fantastic thing about completing a Health & Social Care course, is that it opens up so many doors for you into lots of different career choices. Once completed you will be able work in Residential Care, Special Schools, Respite Care and Day Centers, or progress to university.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will be required to complete a work placement within industry. This will enhance your academic performance, team-based working and improve your employability skills. You will then be able to make a better informed decision about your future career choice. You will study 13 exciting units over the 2 years, 4 of which will be exam based, they are Human Lifespan Development; Working in Health & Social Care; Anatomy & Physiology; Enquiries into Current Research. Other intriguing units you might study are Dementia Care, Psychology, Genetics, Mental Wellbeing and Assessing Children's Needs, this will depend on whether you take the Health or Social route in the second year.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by passionate, humorous, confident and highly experienced lecturers. They will engage you with a variety of teaching methods including flipped learning, e-learning, case studies, educational trips, and a range of specialised key speakers.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed both internally via assignments, group work, presentations and then externally by exams. Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass.
