Course Details

The Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare Support offers the opportunity for those working in the health sector to gain a nationally recognised qualification demonstrating their knowledge and competence. Learners could be working in a variety of health care settings such as a GP practice, General hospital setting, Rehabilitation unit or supporting Allied Health Professionals.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications but learners need to be employed for 30 or more hours per week in a suitable healthcare environment. A literacy assessment, skills scan and interview is required prior to acceptance on the programme.

Career options

Once you have completed the Level 2 Apprenticeship you can work towards the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship at Level 3 once completed this will enable employment as a Health Care Professional e.g. Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist through progression to University.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study a wide range of topics from Equality and Diversity to Individual Care and Physiological Measurements to complete the Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support. You will also gain an Award in Employment Responsibilities and Right and Personal Learning Skills, Functional Skills English Level 1 or 2 and Functional Skills Maths Level 1 or 2.

How will I be taught?

Self-study and one to one with an assessor who will visit you regularly in the clinical setting. Resources and course materials will be provided where appropriate. Group and/or one to one support from a functional skills tutor if required. The Diploma will comprise of mandatory and optional units covering the relevant clinical areas.

How will I be assessed?

Competence and knowledge is demonstrated through the completion of a portfolio of evidence using written and oral evidence, observation in the workplace, recognition of prior learning & work products. Functional Skills in English and Maths is assessed by a written examination. Once these components have been completed you will undertake the End Point Assessment to achieve your apprenticeship.
