The Diploma In Clinical Healthcare Support offers the opportunity for those working in the health sector to gain a nationally recognised qualification demonstrating their knowledge, understanding and competence. This course is relevant for people working within GP Surgeries, Health Clinics or NHS hospital trusts.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications but learners need to be working in an appropriate Healthcare setting. A satisfactory literary and numeracy assessment and interview are required prior to acceptance on the programme.

Career options

Once completed this apprenticeship can lead to a variety of jobs as a health care professional. There is also the option for further studies at level 5 or university: e.g. training for: Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Physiotherapist, Social Worker, Paramedic Science and Paramedic Practitioner.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study towards a Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support comprising of the following units: Communication, Person-Centred Approach to Healthcare, Personal Development, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, The Role of HCSW, Duty of Care, Handling of information, Safeguarding and Protection, Infection Prevention and Control etc. as well as optional units relevant to your clinical practice. You will also be studying for the Apprenticeship components which consist of of Employment Responsibilities and Rights, English and Maths.

How will I be taught?

Teaching and assessment will take place in a variety of ways. There will be one to ones with an Assessor who will visit you regularly in your clinical setting. You will also received knowledge delivered by an industry expert as well as support with Functional skills by your assessor and English and Maths practitioner.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will take place using a variety of methods: observations, discussion, reflective accounts and written work. There will be exams if Maths and English is required. Once these components have been achieved the End Point Assessment will take place to enable apprentices to complete their full apprenticeship.
