Course Details

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care and Apprenticeship provides an opportunity for those working in the Health and Social Care sector to gain a nationally recognised qualification demonstrating their knowledge, understanding and competence. Learners will work towards the Diploma, an Employment Rights qualification and Maths and English functional skills. Employment could include: residential care homes, nursing homes, care agencies and personal care assistant in the community.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualification is required, however candidates will need to be working in an appropriate setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week. An initial assessment will be carried out for Maths and English, and an interview with a college representative will take place prior to enrolment.

Career options

On completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship students can progress on to the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care or gain full time employment within the sector as an Adult Care Worker.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study the Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2. This is made up of mandatory units like: Communication, Personal Development, Equality and Diversity, Duty of Care, Safeguarding and Role of the Care Worker. There is a selection of optional units to chose from that will match your role within the Health and Social Care Sector. You will also complete Functional Skills- (Maths and English) and Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

How will I be taught?

The subjects will be taught by a variety of method to suit the needs and preferences of the students such as (SMART Assessor), one to one meetings on a regular basis and work packs. The College has vocationally competent assessors from a variety of backgrounds that have been suitably chosen for the Health and Social Care courses.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will take place in the work place for your main qualification. An assessor will visit you in the setting to observe your practice and support you with your coursework. Underpinning knowledge will be assessed by a range of methods including written work and assignments. Once the main qualification and Functional Skills has been achieved candidates will complete the End Point assessment to enable full completion of the Apprenticeship.
