Course Details

This is an exciting new course that has a mixture of technical knowledge and work placement to give you the skills and experience you need to work with children. If you want to become a Primary Teacher or Nursery practitioner, then this is the course for YOU! There are two routes, either: * Early Education and Childcare (ages birth to 5) OR Assisting Teaching (Primary and Secondary). This is a great opportunity for you to work alongside professionals, become part of the team and put theory into practice.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 (or A*-C) including English Language and Mathematics. Previous work experience with children will support your application. Two satisfactory references and a clear DBS check is required.

Career options

Access to Higher Education programmes e.g. teaching, early childhood studies, education and social work degrees. Employment: nurseries, primary schools, family homes and holiday rep.

What you need to know

What will I study?

There are two routes either Early Education and Childcare OR Assisting Teaching. Both routes will have the same first year that will allow you to make choices on your progression once you have some work experience. You will be have considerable work experience as part of the course, where you will have the chance develop skills and link theory to practice. You will learn about the curriculum and how to support learning in the early years, primary school and further education. You will explore holistic development, child psychology, as well as observing children, supporting health and care routines, safeguarding, working with families and much, much more. You will also gain knowledge on the potential jobs you can progress into following this course.

How will I be taught?

Teaching and learning methods include practical classes, group and individual work, lectures, self-study, study trips. In addition to this you will have significant work placement, which is a great opportunity to experience the role of a teaching assistant or nursery practitioner!
