Course Details

This course covers both theory and practical elemnets of horticulture. It is taught in a realistic working environment at Brinsbury and is designed to give you skills relevant to working in the vibrant horticulture industry, in areas such as landscaping, plant production, science, management, greenkeeping and groundsmanship. There are many opportunities to get involved in practical projects both at the campus and beyond, including working with gold medal winning show teams and designers.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE's at level C, 4 or above ( including maths and English). Industry experience will be taken into consideration.

Career options

The academic progression route may lead you to the Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Horticulture which could ultimately lead to level 4/5 HNC/HND or University. You may want to start your own business or join a local horticultural company and work your way up to management level.

The units that you will cover are: Principles of Health and Safety Undertake and review work related experience in the land based industries Identification, selection and planting of plants Maintain turf in parks and gardens Land based industry machinery operations Principles of plant health and protection Plant and soil science Construct and maintain timber landscape features Construct horizontal landscape surfaces Construct and restore walls

How will I be taught?

A mix of theory and practical sessions throughout the year. You will also have guest speakers and visit to relevant industry organisations and buidsinesses

How will I be assessed?

It will be a mix of exam, practical and written assessments.
