Course Details

This course is designed for students who would like to become professional chefs. The course will build on skills you have studied in Year 1 preparing you to work in the hospitality industry which is creative, challenging as well as rewarding. Within the study programme, you will also work in our state of the art restaurant, both preparing and serving food, as well as visiting and working alongside visiting chefs from industry. We run a commercial hospitality operation within the college which will give students plenty of enterprise opportunities to prepare for their future.

Entry Requirements

Path One 4 GCSE's at 9-3 (A-D) with a C/4 grade in Maths or English Path Two To have completed a full time level 1 or level 2

Career options

Progression onto a L3 Professional Cookery courser or there is a vast number of opportunities in the hospitality industry which will suit all students' aspirations. From local pubs, hotels and restaurants, to international hotel groups, private dining and large outside catering events.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study a level 2 in professional cookery. This will give a general knowledge of working in a kitchen, so you are ready to specialize in the future. You will be taught in our new kitchens and restaurant a mix of skills lessons and live restaurant by our hospitality team. We will also support you to continue to improve your maths and English skills.

How will I be taught?

Your lessons will be a mixture of classroom taught theory and restaurant based practical. During practical lessons, you will be working in our café and restaurant, preparing and cooking food as well as serving paying customers. Please note that we adhere to occupational standards within our realistic working environment.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a mix of observations while you are preparing and cooking food and short multiple choice theory tests to ensure you have an understanding of the subject.
