Course Details

The HND in Creative Sound Design for Film and Gaming develops a number of important skills, knowledge and understanding required to succeed in employment in the Creative Industries. The course gives students the opportunity to take advantage of specialist audio software to design and create sounds, as well as compose music to a variety of different situations. Students will also have access to our new hybrid recording studios where they will learn and develop their understanding of importance of good audio capture. There will be a large amount of tutor led class time (up to 14 per week) from our highly skilled, professional, friendly and approachable staff. The lecturing teams are all still active within the industry at various levels, meaning that students will benefit from their up to date knowledge of industry practices. The course is at its core designed to be a practical ‘hands-on’ course as this the most valuable way for students to gain experience. Year 1 comprises the HNC (Level 4 Higher National Certificate) qualification. Students can then progress on to the second year HND (Level 5 Higher National Diploma) to fully complete the qualification.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Mathematics and English Language are preferred at grade C. Applicants need to demonstrate a sound academic background in Maths and English Language. Applicants need to have a combination of GCE A levels, or BTEC Level 3 Diploma/ Extended Diplomas or equivalent qualifications.

Career options

How will I be taught?

Courses are taught with a combination of lectures, seminars and practical workshops, with the added expectation of self-directed study. Students will be expected to work as part of a team and autonomously in order to complete scheduled work.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will be scheduled and published at the beginning of each unit and will comprise a mixture of presentations, group work, work-based learning, practical assessment, examinations and written assignments.
