Course Details

This is a challenging course designed for the student desiring to follow a career path in Musical Theatre. Emphasis will be given in the first term to preparation for entry to conservatoire/drama schools. Development of triple threat performance skills is the emphasis of the course. Performance opportunities will be made available. The year will culminate with a showcase. Classes will be delivered in all three performance disciplines – Singing, Dancing and Acting – providing the opportunity for students to become ‘triple threat’ performers. Within your musical theatre company you will work within a schedule that emulates that of a professional company taking daily technique classes and working towards performance opportunities. Along with your regular teaching staff you will also participate in workshops from visiting practitioners. At the end of the course students have the opportunity to celebrate their achievement with a full graduation ceremony at Chichester Cathedral.

Entry Requirements

All applicants are required to have a successful audition. GCSE English Language at Grade A*-C and either GCE A level in two related subjects at grade C or above or BTEC Ext. Diploma in Performing Arts at grade: MMM Mature students with suitable work experience and GCSE/O'Level C+

What you need to know

What will I study?

During this program you will further develop your basic musical theatre skills, which will be delivered by modules covering acting practice (acting techniques, audition skills), rehearsal and performance skills, technical skills (voice, singing and dance) and contextual studies (script analysis and research skills). All of the rigorous practical research, modules and projects and academic exploration, will produce work within the scholarly conventions appropriate to an undergraduate level of study.

How will I be taught?

As a trainee professional member you will produce three to four shows that includes a children’s theatre, naturalism, physical theatre and experimental theatre. Performance projects are the underlying foundation of the course. Students will work within a schedule that emulates that of a professional company.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on your ability to respond to stimuli in the rehearsal room and on the simulation of skills in performances. You will also create appropriate research to supplement any practical assignment; this will be through logbooks or research papers.
