What you need to know

What will I study?

You will study the new UAL Level 4 Profession Diploma in Performance. In doing so, you will be introduced to and explore the realities of a professional working environment and the demands placed upon a performer. By instigating, rehearsing and performing in a specialist performance project you will realise your professional performance ambitions. You will take a range of technique classes including: ballet, jazz, contemporary, commercial; all taught by dance practitioners at the forefront of the industry. You will study the new ISTD Contemporary Dance syllabus and have the opportunity to take advanced level ISTD exams. You will receive training in supporting skills, e.g. singing, physical theatre and acro to enhance the key discipline. An exciting array of workshops will be offered, delivered by guest teachers including professional directors, choreographers and dancers. You will develop your audition techniques and be given the opportunity to audition for and be placed on the books of Gielgud Management (a leading performing arts agency).

How will I be taught?

Drawing on the expertise of a highly qualified teaching team, you will develop your practical skills in a broad range of dance technique classes with small group sizes, take part in exam coaching classes, expand your performance repertoire through rehearsals and performance and hone your audition techniques through a series of workshops. As members of our Co Pro Dance Company, you will work within a schedule that emulates that of a professional company and create work to take on tour.

How will I be assessed?

The UAL Level 4 qualification will be assessed through a series of individual assignments. Assignments will have a practical emphasis underpinned by theoretical exploration, research and planning. You will be given a clear time frame including deadlines for each individual activity and the overall assessment. You will be provided with assessment guidance so that you know what you are being assessed on and what is expected of you. Units 1 and 2 will be internally assessed and verified. Unit 3 will be internally assessed, internally verified and externally moderated. ISTD Vocational exams will be externally examined by an ISTD examiner.
