Course Details

A nationally recognised course which provides you with the equivalent of 3 A-Levels. The course delivers theory and practical aspects related to sport and exercise science which offers you progression and work skills. This course can lead onto Higher Education for you to study further in any of the following areas; Sports Therapy, Sport Rehabilitation Sports Science, PE Teaching, Sports Coaching Sciences, Nutrition, Biomechanics, Psychology, Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, Sport Studies, Sports Development. There will also be opportunities over the 2 years to visit a variety of universities, gain support with UCAS applications and undertake a placement within the sport and exercise science field.

Entry Requirements

Applicants can apply with either: - BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject graded minimum of a Merit and 3 GCSE grades including Mathematics and English between 4-9, Or - Five GCSE at grades A-C including English and Mathematics graded 4-9

What you need to know

What will I study?

As you can see a variety of units, both practical and theory based, all of which delivered in a variety of methods. Year one is to provide you with a broad foundation of knowledge of sports science this then prepares you for the second year, which is much more applied and vocationally based. Elements of these units will be delivered at a local University using their sports science facilities. Year one units of study; Functional Anatomy Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science Coaching for Performance and Fitness Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science Physical Activity for Individual and Group-based Exercise Year two units of study; Sport and Exercise Physiology Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing Research Project in Sport and Exercise Science Sports Massage Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance Technology in Sport and Exercise Science Sports Injury Assessment

How will I be taught?

A variety of practical and theoretical teaching throughout the course underpinning the science behind sport and performance. Along with this you will be required to carry out an independent project and some independent research to aid the understanding of a variety of topic areas.

How will I be assessed?

Four externally marked pieces of work, two of which will be exams and the other two will form case studies to work around. The other 9 units will be assessed using a variety of methods including practical assessments and written assignments, these however could form posters, leaflets and laboratory reports for example.
