The Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Fitness (QCF) provides learners with essential knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in Active Leisure. The qualification focuses on giving the learner multiple knowledge and skills to broaden their ability to enhance and develop their career prospects and pathways thereby, increasing their earning potential, this includes: Personal training; Nutrition; Anatomy and physiology; Exercise referral; Sports massage; Pre and post-natal.

Entry Requirements

A suitable level 2 qualification in Gym instructing accredited by Register of Exercise Professional (REPS). Level 4/Grade C and above in English and Maths. The course requires physical exertion and individuals participating is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

Career options

Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organization setting or alternatively in a self-employment environment.

What you need to know

What will I study?

The learner must achieve all units for the L3 Diploma: Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health; Know how to support clients and physical activity; Health; safety and welfare in a fitness environment; Principles of exercise; fitness and health; Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity program; Programming personal training sessions. As well as Sports Massage Units: Anatomy and physiology for sports massage; Assisting soft tissue repair; Assisting soft tissue repair; Professional practice in sport massage; Assessing clients and treatment planning; Applying Sports massage techniques; Providing post-treatment care; Design and implement exercise programs for Pre and Post natal client. Planning exercise referral programs with patients: Understand the importance of long-term behavior; Collecting information to plan an exercise program; Understand how to identify health related fitness goals.

How will I be taught?

Sessions will be practically taught as well as classroom based theory lessons. Sessions will be in the fitness suite and studio, along with theory in the classroom. There will be peer assessment and working with the community throughout.

How will I be assessed?

You will be continually assessed throughout the course both formally and informally. The main assessment for the qualification include: Coursework, multiple choice examination, portfolio of evidence and practical demonstrations/assignments. £190 will be required on starting the course. This will cover all learning resources, t-shirt and an educational trip.
