Course Details

This qualification is a stepping-stone towards the Level 5 full teaching qualification and serves as an introduction to the principles of teaching, training and learning. The knowledge gained will help candidates to make informed decisions about their own progression. In addition to providing a first step towards qualification for FE Lecturers, the course will also be appropriate to any practising or intending teacher, trainer or learning assistant who works in the post compulsory sector.

Entry Requirements

Word processing skills are needed as all assignments must be word processed.

Career options

Depending on teaching role, one may progress to either the Certificate in Education & Training (Level 4) or a Certificate in Education (post compulsory) which is equivalent to a Diploma in Education & Training (Level 5).

What will I study?

On completing the Award in Education & Training course, it is anticipated that candidates will be familiar with basic theory and practice relating to the following: • Roles, responsibilities and boundaries of the practitioner in the Life Long Learning Sector • The nature of learning and learners and the range of individual learning needs • The need for reflection within learning and its function for learners and learning • The importance of the learning plan and the guidelines for its implementation • The purpose of micro teaching and its associated feedback • The nature of assessment and its role within learning • The key features of Professional Development

How will I be taught?

It is a classroom based programme incorporating a range of teaching methods, group activities, discussion, tutor led presentations. The focus of the sessions is on sharing student experience of education and their roles.

How will I be assessed?

Both External and Internal Assessment feature in this qualification. External Assessment: Candidates are required to keep a Professional Development Journal (P.D.J.) which is assessed by examiners appointed by the awarding body. Internal Assessment is practical and takes place during the course.
