COURSE OVERVIEW
The A level in Digital Technology is designed to advance your understanding of the digital technologies that are used globally, including how they have developed and continue to change.
You will gain a deeper understanding of how innovations in digital technology, and increasing levels of connectivity between them, have an impact on wider society.
You will also develop practical skills in both creative and digital productions and digital solutions to problems faced in industry, which will help support your progression into employment in a career utilising digital technologies or onto further study at higher education.

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English Language and a B/6 in Maths. GCSE Computer Science or Digital Technology or experience using High Level programming languages (e.g. Python. C#) will be an advantage to learners. You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment.
There are many options for further learning, employment or an apprenticeship. Careers you may wish to explore include Software Development, Systems Analysis, Cyber Security, Network Engineering or Website Designer. You will also develop useful skills in thinking creatively, analytically, logically and critically.
The specification is divided into a total of four units. Two in the first year and two in the second year.
Unit 1: Innovation in Digital Technology. This unit is assessed through a two hour written exam.
Unit 2: Creative Digital Practices. This is a non-examined assessment unit which focuses on the end to end creation of a game.
Unit 3: Connected Systems. This unit is assessed through a two and a half hour written exam.
Unit 4: Digital Solutions. This is a non-examined assessment unit which focuses on the creation of a transactional website linked to a server based RDBMS.
You will be required to buy your own textbooks, stationary and any subject-related equipment.
