COURSE OVERVIEW
Our Alternative Academic Qualification (Applied Qualification) in Medical Science (Extended Certificate) equips learners with knowledge, understanding and practical skills to support progress to higher education. Learners will study key topic areas of health, physiology, and disease, as well as pharmacology, physiological measurement, clinical testing, and medical research.
The Extended Certificate is studied across two years and is equivalent to a full A-level with the same UCAS points attached.
Fully regulated by OFQUAL.
Suitable to study alongside other A Level subjects, both Science and non Science, such as A-levels in Psychology, Sociology, P.E. and many more
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will require 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include Maths and English. Grade 5 in two individual sciences to include Biology or 55 in Combined Science.
*NB Cannot be studied alongside A Level Biology.
Highly suitable for a career in the healthcare industry. This course can be studied alongside 2 A levels for progression to University courses such as: Nursing, Paramedic Science or Sports Science
This qualification comprised 6 units and is assessed through 50% internally assessed coursework and 50% externally assessed exam and non-exam assessment
Unit 1: Human Health and Disease – External Exam
Unit 2: Physiological measurement techniques – Internal Assessment
Unit 3: Medical Science Research Methods – Internal Assessment
Unit 4: Medicines and treatment of disease – Internal Assessment
Unit 5: Clinical Laboratory techniques – External Assessment
Unit 6: Medical case study – External Exam
You will be required to buy your own textbooks, stationary and any subject-related equipment, e.g. a Lab Coat (Approx £18 purchased through college) & calculator.
