Theatre Inc. Celebrates Success at Portsmouth Community Awards
Theatre Inc. students and staff were recognised for their hard work and dedication at the Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association Community Awards, which took place earlier this term.
Theatre Inc. staff received the Community Champion Award in the ‘Outstanding Further Education Programme 2025’ category, with staff members Murray Hughes and Estelle Palmer accepting the award on the night.
The team was nominated by a Theatre Inc. student, Max Ross, who also received the Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the ceremony for his contribution to the charity’s fundraising efforts.
Theatre Inc. is an innovative study programme designed to empower performers with disabilities and other challenges by helping them build independent life skills using performing arts.
The event brought together a variety of people to celebrate the extraordinary contributions professionals and community members make to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Hosted by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Jason Fazackarley, the awards ceremony took place in the Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Suite at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Helen Loftus, Principal at Chichester College, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our Theatre Inc. team and students for their dedication and hard work. These awards not only celebrate their achievements but also highlight the importance of inclusion and awareness in our community.
“It’s truly inspiring to see the impact they have in raising awareness and supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families.”
